ProCPR, LLC
In honor of National CPR and AED Awareness Week (the first week of June), ProCPR.org has created a Facebook application to teach people how to perform hands-only CPR, a less intrusive and simplified version of CPR released by the American Heart Association in April 2008.
To get started, log into Facebook and type "hands only cpr" in the search bar to locate the Hands Only CPR Facebook application. Then, watch the video training and share the application with friends to help spread the word. ProCPR hopes to reach one million Facebook users with the new application. Roy Shaw, co-founder and lead instructor at ProCPR explains, “CPR is gift. You will never use it on yourself, but it could be the most important thing you learn for the sake of a loved one. Facebook offers people a unique opportunity to show family and friends just how much they care by taking the time to learn CPR.”
According to a statistic released by the American Heart Association, less than 1/3 of people who experience a cardiac arrest at home, work or in a public location get help. This failure to help is largely because people do not feel confident in their skills and are afraid to get involved. ProCPR is hoping to help improve this statistic by making its CPR training free and accessible to anyone with a Facebook account.
The company cautions people that the hands-only CPR Facebook training should not be confused with accredited CPR certification for those who require training and certification for their jobs. The training provided on Facebook is awareness-level training for people who may need to perform the skill as a “Good Samaritan.” Those who require CPR certification for their jobs should visit www.ProCPR.org for an accredited American Heart Association compliant CPR certificate option.
